AFFILIATION
STATEMENT OF FAITH
1. We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21)
2. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30)
3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 10:30, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9); in His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35); in His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26); in His miracles (John 2:11); in His bodily resurrection (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4); in His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); and in his personal return to power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelations 19:11).
4. We believe that for salvation of the lost and sinful man, regeneration sovereignty applied by the Holy Spirit and evidenced by a living faith in Christ is absolutely essential.
5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).
7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 12:12, Galatians 3:26-28).
PHILOSOPHY, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES
Our philosophy recognizes a
covenantal relationship, which God has established with believers and their
children. In view of this relationship,
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND
OPERATION
The school is organized and operated as a non-profit organization. It a parent run school in that the parents of Gateway vote for members of the School Board who represent the entire membership.
Gateway membership elects the School Board
Gateway Administrator oversees the operation of the school to include:
Vice-Principal, Faculty, Staff, and PTF
Parent-Teacher Fellowship supports the operation of the school
HISTORY
In May of 1990, nine families decided to start the school. In the fall of 1990,
the school year was able to begin with a half-day kindergarten class. They met
in the fellowship hall of
In September of 1991, Gateway added a 1-2 grade combination class. The following year a 3-4 grade combination class was added and grades 1 & 2 became separate classes. By 1994, Gateway offered grades 1-8. Realizing the need for a Christian high school in the area, the board, administration, and parents decided to add a 9th grade class in 2000. In 2004-2005 we will see our first graduating high school class.

THE GATEWAY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL BOARD
The Gateway Christian School Board meets on the second and fourth Mondays of
each month. All School Board meetings are open to attendance by all parents of
Gateway Students. The School Board does meet for brief periods in closed
session. Please check the current edition of "The Gate" or visit our
website at www.gatewaychristianschool.org for dates, times, and location of the
next School Board meeting.
The most important function of the School Board is the formulation of policies
and procedures, which govern the operation of the school. This in turn leads to
the task of providing guidance and consistency to the administration and staff.
The School Board operates solely as a group and no policy or issue is decided
by a solo Board member. In addition to making and/or updating school policy, a
School Board member with the School Administrator interviews prospective
families for admission.
The Board consists of six members elected for a two-year term. Each Board member
may be re-elected by the membership for a second two year term. The terms of
service on the Board are to be staggered in such a manner that no more than
one-half of the full Board will complete their term of service in any given
year. All Board members must be in good standing in the school and regularly
attending a local church in line with the doctrinal position of the school.
The PTF is an important part of
The PTF will provide prayer support for the school, teachers, students, and families. The PTF will carry out projects and functions to enrich the ministry of Gateway. These will include fund-raising projects, social events, and school activities.

Please let the school office know if your child has a contagious disease, such as chicken pox, measles etc. If your student is awaiting the results of a Strep test, please keep him/her home until the results are received.
Prescription Medicines
The following must be turned in to the school office in order for the school personnel to administer medications.
1. A written signed statement a physician detailing the method, amount, and time schedules in which such medication is to be taken. Students requiring the use of inhalers must have one at school to be available when needed.

Grades 6-8: School is dismissed at 3:00 p.m.
After
EXTENDED DAY
Extended school day is offered for Kindergarten – Grade 5. The hours are 3:00pm-5:00pm.
It is imperative that you pick up your student promptly at 5:00pm. Additional fees will apply.
Parents will need to sign their child out when they pick up their child from extended day in the afternoon.
ATTENDANCE
Regular and punctual attendance is essential for success. Student absences and tardies interrupt the smooth and complete process of learning. We urge students to be absent only when absolutely necessary. All students are required to be punctual and in regular attendance.
Excused Absence
Absences due to illness, medical services or funerals will be considered an excused absence. A signed note stating the reason for your child’s absence should be brought when the child returns to school.
Pre-arranged Excused Absence
If circumstances require a student to be absent, parents need to notify the teacher/teachers in writing one-week prior to the dates a student will be absent from class. Arrangements need to be made with the teacher prior to the student’s absence for any missed assignment and when they are due.
Unexcused Absence
Many reasons may seem legitimate to the parents but are nevertheless classified as unexcused. Failure to turn in a written note for an excused absence will result in an unexcused absence.
TARDIES
Being on time to school every morning, sets the tone for the entire day. It is also disruptive to the class and teacher when a student walks into the classroom late. This causes the teacher extra work in order to catch the student up with the rest of the class. All late students must pick up a tardy slip from the office before going to their class.
If a student is continually tardy, a parent
conference will be held to discuss the situation. If persistent tardiness
continues even after a parent conference, a student may be placed in a
probationary status and/or recommended for removal from the school.
Students
leaving during the school day
An adult
must sign out students leaving school during the school day. The adult then assumes responsibility for
that student. A pass will be given to the adult so the teacher knows the
student has been signed out at the office. Please give the pass to the teacher
and then wait outside the classroom for your child. If a student is returning
to school or arriving late to school from a doctor’s appointment etc., they
must be signed in at the school office and receive an entrance pass.
MAKE-UP
Excused
Absence
Kindergarten
through Grade 5
When a student has an excused absence, they will have two days for every day absent to make-up the work. If a student is going to be absent two or more days, a parent will need to call the office. The office will contact the student’s teacher and will ask for the student’s assignments from other teachers. A parent may pick-up assignments and books after school the day following the call to the office.
Junior
High School - Grades 6 -8
When a student has an excused absence, they will have one day for every day absent to make-up the work. If a student is only absent one day on a day an assignment is due, that assignment is due the day the student returns to school. Likewise if they are absent one day only and miss a test, the student will be required to take the test on the first day the student returns to school. A student, and not the teacher, is responsible to find out, complete, and hand in any work missed due to absences. Students of course are expected to keep up with new work given as well as make up missed work.
In the case of an unexcused absence a student
will receive a zero grade on any missed assignments or tests and cannot make up
the work.
DRESS CODE POLICY

After the first quarter, grades 1 through 8 will receive a progress report only if their grades have dropped dramatically or are a C and below.
Communication between parents and teachers is vital in the education of our young people. Parents should feel free to meet with their child’s teacher any time after school. Please call the school office to set up a time for the conference. Please avoid meeting with teachers before school as this is considered class preparation time.
Time is set aside at least once each year for parent/teacher conferences. This provides an opportunity to discuss progress in each area of study as well as offering insights on the part of the parent and of teachers. It is a valuable time of communication. Please make every effort to attend these conferences. Additional conferences with the teacher and or administrator will be arranged if needed.
Homework is considered an extension of the regular classroom instruction. Students can expect to spend some time each school evening on homework.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
"Just
as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have
the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member
belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace
given us…if it is serving, let him serve…"
Romans 12:4-7
PARENT / STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
We want to encourage communication between the parent and teacher. If you desire a meeting with a teacher please contact them directly by calling the office to ask for a convenient time. If you would like to meet with the administrator, please contact the office to set up an appointment. No staff member should be contacted at home and should only be contacted through the school office.
RECONCILIATION PRINCIPLES
We realize that over the course of the year there
may arise problems or conflicts between individuals or with the school. We
expect these conflicts to be resolved according to Biblical principles laid out
in Matthew 18:15-17. “If your brother sins against you, go and
show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have
won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along,
so that every matter may be established by the testimony
of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the
church.”
If a conflict arises between a parent and staff member we ask that the
following guidelines be observed:
Go directly to the staff member first and share your concern.
If you feel that the problem was not resolved in an acceptable manner, go to the administrator.
If after working with the staff member and administrator, the issue is still not resolved, please contact the school board President.
Please keep the conflict only between the parties involved. Gossip only breeds more divisiveness and problems.
Remember that everyone makes mistakes. Once a conflict is resolved, it is our responsibility to forgive, as our Father forgives, and go on.
If you come to the board or administrator with a problem with an individual, you will be asked if you went first to that individual.
Please remember that we have a common goal and purpose, to bring honor and glory to our Lord, Jesus Christ, in all that we do.
PARENTAL BEHAVIOR
Parental behavior shall be professional and promoting of the school spirit at all times. Any negativity and/or talk other than that which builds up Gateway will not be tolerated. A parent may be called to the School Board for discipline or removal from the school for any of the following issue:
Spreading Gossip or negativity about Gateway Administration, Staff, students, or leadership group. .
Causing any type of un-Christian behavior in the school.
Any talk or action which may cause a student or other person connected with Gateway to feel threatened, scared, belittled, harassed and/or causes any feelings other than a positive one.
Anything not specifically mentioned but brings hatred or negativity into Gateway.
