Casual Dress & HS Dress Code
Clarifications
This notice is intended to make it
easier for parents and students to understand our Dress Code intent and
application. Our overriding principles are four-fold:
1) modesty 2) cleanliness 3)
neatness 4) non-distracting
The
GCS Administration, teachers and staff reserve the right to interpret questionable clothing situations as they arise.
In implementing the Dress Code, the administration and teachers will seek to
adhere to the Dress Code principles, to reasonableness and to the direction of
the Holy Spirit. In order to facilitate student/parent application of the GCS
Dress Code, here is a summary of acceptable/unacceptable clothing, fads and
accessories:
“YES” Casual Dress (9-12 daily
& K-8 the last Friday of every month)
• YES for jeans,
T-shirts, khakis, capris, culottes, skirts and dresses, sports shoes, dress
shoes
• YES for Scouting
uniforms (They may be worn on any school day.)
• YES for
professional team jerseys.
“NO” All Students
• No
sandals or flip-flops (footwear should
have closed toes and heels)
• No
apparel with messages or pictures offensive to God
• No
Abercrornbie & Fitch brand clothing (we feel their advertising methods are immodest and an
affront to decency)
• No hats to
be worn inside any building
• No
clothing that has holes in it or is excessively worn
• No
undergarments are to be visible —seated, standing or bending over
• No tight
clothing
• No baggy
pants
• No chains
or tattoos
• No body
piercing (except for girls’ ear rings)
• No hair of
an unnatural color (blue, purple, green, etc.)
• No hair
touching the collar area for boys
• No tank
tops or spaghetti strap tops (girls sleeveless tops are acceptable)
• No
backless, strapless or low neckline tops or dresses
• No tops
revealing the midriff section (with arms raised or lowered in any position)
• No
sleeveless “muscle” shirts for boys
• No short
shorts
• No shorts
that are not hemmed
• No
athletic shorts (mesh, running, basketball-type, Spandex® and similar shorts)
• No
athletic clothing: basketball, soccer, football, practice gear/clothing,
jerseys, etc. (except for GCS game days)
• No sweat
pants (except for PE classes only)

should be directed to your child’s teacher for clarification. The
Administration reserves the right to change the Dress Code when necessary.
