School Bylaws

Revised - August 2005

  

PREAMBLE

We, the School Board, in response to the Biblical commandment for the Christian education of our children and believing that this Christian education can best be accomplished in a Christian school, hereby make and adopt the following Bylaws for the organization and operation of Gateway Christian School.

 

 

 

ARTICLE I NAME

 The name of this school is Gateway Christian School and shall include Gateway Christian Elementary School, Gateway Christian Middle School, and Gateway Christian High School.

 

 

 

ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP

Section 1 — The membership of the school shall be comprised of individuals who meet the following requirements: 

A.  Those individuals who, at the time of a given meeting are 18 years of age or older and have submitted a       

      written application for membership which has been approved by the School Board; or

 

B.   Parents or Guardians with one or more child at Gateway Christian School.

 

 Section 2 — Each member present at a meeting shall be entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to a vote at the meeting of general membership.

 

 Section 3 — A member may be terminated by the action of the School Board upon a determination by the Board that the member has conducted himself/herself in a manner which is inconsistent with biblical principles.

 

 

 

ARTICLE IV - BOARD OF DIRECTORS (SCHOOL BOARD)

Section 1 — Agreement of School Board

All members of the School Board shall be born-again believers and shall agree without reservation with the Bylaws and Board Policy Manual. Further, they shall be active in and in regular attendance and in good standing of a local, Christian church whose doctrine is in agreement with Gateway Christian School Policies.

 

Section 2 — General Responsibilities 

The Gateway Christian School Board shall oversee the continuing operation of this ministry and generally oversee the school’s business affairs. The responsibilities of the Board shall include, but not be limited to, making policy, acting on matters of personnel including hiring and firing, establishing tuition and fees, promoting Christian education in the community, seeking and maintaining accreditation and praying for the ministry of the school.

  

Section 3 — Number and Tenure of Members

 A.  The School Board shall consist of six regular members. The Board may have up to three additional non-voting ex-officio members of which one shall be the school Administrator. These ex-officio members shall serve at the convenience of the School Board

 

B.   Each School Board member shall serve on the Board for a term of three years, unless such service is terminated by resignation, death, or dismissal. Any Board member is eligible to be considered for additional successive three year terms by vote of the membership.

 

Section 4— Board Member Qualifications

 A.  Members of the School Board shall be born-again believers and subscribe without reservation to the school’s Statement of Faith and Philosophy of Education.

  

B.   Members of the School Board shall be Christian role models in their church and community.

  

C.  There cannot be two members of the same immediate family serving on the School Board during the same time period.

  

D.  No board member can be a spouse of a paid staff member that is eligible for benefits by the Association.

             

 

 ARTICLE V— OFFICERS OF THE BOARD

 Section 1 — Officers

 A.  The School Board shall annually elect Officers of the Board from among its members. The duties of the Officers shall be as follows:

                                                                     

1.   President. The President shall preside at all School Board meetings and perform such other duties as approved by the Board. The President shall be the Administrator’s point of contact with the Board when the Board is not in session.

  

2.   Vice-President. The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in the latter’s absence, disability, or refusal to act. When so acting, the Vice-President shall have all powers of and be subject to all the restrictions upon the President.

  

3.   Secretary. The Secretary shall cause to be recorded the minutes of any and all meetings of the Board. The Secretary shall have custody of the Board records and documents and shall conduct necessary correspondence and perform other duties associated with the office.

  

4.   Treasurer. The Treasurer shall maintain the financial records showing the financial condition of the school, shall be the custodian of all monies in the school, and shall perform such other duties as are customarily performed by such an officer. Additionally, the Treasurer shall monthly, provide a financial statement and report to the Board any concerns, irregularities or significant financial trends.

 

 

            5.   All remaining School Board members shall be considered At-Large.

 

 

 ARTICLE VI- AMENDMENTS OF THE BYLAWS

 Section 1 — These Bylaws may be amended after notification has been mailed to the Association members at least seven days  prior to the School Board meeting and by a unanimous vote of all the members of the School Board at any meeting wherein the full School Board shall be present.
