Junior High Highlights

Before we turn our attention completely to the Advent season, I want to highlight some great activities the junior high students of Gateway are involved with. First, the junior high students had a fantastic time at their Fun Night November 10 which included lots of food, air hockey and many other great games. Next on the activity list is our after school sports program which includes the boys’ basketball team and the girls’ cheerleading squad.  Both groups were introduced to the Golden Hills student body (grades 3-12) at our Pep Rally yesterday. And then the basketball team and cheerleaders made their debut at our first game of the year. The boys did a great job against Contra Costa Christian, although they lost 57-51.  The basketball team members are:  Luke Garcia, Andrew Daughdrill, Ryan Goetting, Dustin McCormick, Adam Wall, Alex Davis, Stephen Rodriquez, Jake Sandy and Matt O’Boyle. The basketball team’s coach is Mr. Ramon Jackson.

The Encouraging our team, students and parent supports were our cheerleaders who kept up a constant rhythm of spirited chants.  The cheerleaders are:  Lauren Renslow, Alex Stenger, Miranda Daughdrill, Haley Gordon, Natalee Stickney and Maddy McCormick.  The cheerleaders’ director is Mrs. Alicia McCormick.

And lastly, the 8th Grade Class is diligently continuing in their fundraising projects to raise funds for their Washington, D.C. trip in May.  The second monthly Pancake Breakfast was held this morning at the Lighthouse Campus to the enjoyment of many families and students.  And in keeping with the Christmas season, the 8th graders are also offering Poinsettias Sale (ends Dec 2), Shop N’ Drop (Dec 16) and Gift Wrapping (Dec 17).                                                           CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS

FOR MAKING GATEWAY A GREAT PLACE TO BE !!!

Serving the Savior,

Mr. Stutzman

          Monday, December 5           7:45 am – 4:00 pm

          Tuesday, December 6                 7:45 am. – 4:00 pm

          Wednesday, December 7        7:45 am. – 7:00 pm

Thursday, December 8          7:45 am until after Christmas                                                        Program

This year, Gateway is participating in a new opportunity to bring more books to our students and other needy children. Scholastic Book Fairs calls it One for Books. In this season of giving, it’s a great way to give the gift of reading!

Each Gateway family received a letter outlining this program along with Book Slips. You donate just $1 and sign one of the Book Slips attached with your name or child’s name so we can display it at our Book Fair. You or your child can also ask friends and relatives to donate $1 to One for Books. Additional Book Slips will be available in the school office at both campuses.

For each $1 we raise Scholastic Book Fairs will match the One for Books dollars donating up to a million books to three non-profit programs devoted to improving reading skills among children: Kids in Distressed Situations, National Center for Family Literacy, and Toys for Tots.

Along with the proceeds raised during the Book Fair, we will use this money to buy additional books to gain accreditation for our Library.

Please send your dollar(s) and signed paper Book Slip(s) back to school with your child.

Thank you for your participation in this very worthwhile program.
